Endodontic Instruments     S-Kondensors From:  Obtura/Spartan Dr. Sam Kratchman, a practicing endodontist in Exton, Pennsylvania, and the Assistant Director of Graduate Endodontics at the University of Pennsylvania designed the S Kondensers, new from Obtura/Spartan. They are designed for use during the obturation phase of root canal treatment. The S Kondensers are double-ended; with one end tapered Nickel-titanium (NiTi), allowing it to follow the curvature of the root canal during vertical down packing of the apical gutta percha plug. The taper of the NiTi allows for greater compressive strength, while maintaining the flexibility. There are markings at 5mm intervals along the NiTi to better gauge the depth of the condenser.  The other end is stainless steel, and is used during the final back packing, along with the Obtura II.

The handle of the S Kondenser is an anodized aluminum, which is comfortable and light to the touch, while maintaining its color throughout countless sterilizations. The smooth texture will not accumulate debris, such as sealer, so the condensers always look clean. Finger rests have been grooved into the handles, to allow for a comfortable, yet firm grip while condensing. The handles are ISO standard colors.   The new S Kondensers from Obtura/Spartan come in three colors; black (#40 NiTi/#80 stainless steel), Yellow (#50 NiTi/ #100 stainless steel) and blue (#60 NiTi/ #120 stainless steel).
